WHAT IS PERIODONTITIS AND HOW CAN IT CAUSE LOSS OF DENTAL PIECES?
Periodontitis (or periodontal disease) is a bacterial infection of the specialized tissues, ligaments, and bones that surround and support teeth, known as the periodontium.
Periodontitis (or periodontal disease) is a bacterial infection of the specialized tissues, ligaments, and bones that surround and support teeth, known as the periodontium.
It is the second and most serious phase of gingival disease. Once contracted, it is irreversible and can lead to permanent tooth loss. Requires medical or dental treatment.
WHAT CAUSES PERIODONTITIS?
Periodontitis occurs if gingivitis is not treated. It is caused by the accumulation of bacterial plaque around and below the gum line (the area where the gum comes in contact with the tooth). It can cause the bone and tissues that support the teeth to be irreversibly damaged.
That tissue damage can cause the gums to separate from the teeth and create small spaces or 'pockets' where even more plaque can build up and start an infection. When the situation worsens, the bone begins to erode. If left untreated, it can cause teeth to move and fall out or have to be removed by a specialist dentist.
DO NOT IGNORE THE WARNING SIGNS
Periodontitis is the advanced phase of gingival disease. Unlike gingivitis, it is not reversible and often has serious and long-lasting consequences for the appearance and condition of your teeth and gums. So it's very important that you don't let things get that far.
If you bleed when you brush your teeth or floss, you have bad breath, and your gums are red and swollen, you have early signs of gingival disease; don't ignore them. If you experience any of these symptoms you should consult your dental hygienist or dentist immediately. They can advise you on the best treatment before the problem becomes too serious.
If your dentist detects that your gum problems persist or worsen, he may recommend a short-term intensive treatment with parodontax Extra 0.2% intensive mouthwash. It has been clinically proven to help treat gingivitis and contains an antiseptic ingredient, called chlorhexidine, that works to remove plaque. Helps keep your mouth clean and protect your gums. Using it as soon as your gingival problems start to get worse can help prevent rapidly progressing periodontitis.
