Many people when we think of orthodontics, the first thing that comes to mind is metallic orthodontic appliances. However, orthodontia is more than just brackets and wires.

Invisible aligners
There are more options available to straighten teeth than conventional braces: invisible braces. These appliances consist of transparent sequential orthodontic aligners.
With the end goal in mind, a series of plastic aligners are created using initial impressions or digital scans of the patient's mouth as a starting point.
What are the aligners and how many hours do they take?
The aligners are transparent and removable splints, made as replicas of the teeth that follow a sequence of slight movements and fit over the teeth to straighten them. The aligners put pressure on the teeth and reposition them slightly.
Over time the teeth reach their ideal place according to the initial plan of the orthodontist. The total number of aligners will vary according to the needs of each patient. As with traditional orthodontic appliances, patients will need to wear retainers at the end of treatment to maintain the result obtained.
Each splint must be worn for a set period of time, usually about 20 hours a day for two weeks, before you can move on to the next splint.
Who are the aligners indicated for?
These aligners are suitable for patients with mild or moderate crowding or minor space problems, but may not be appropriate for patients with crowding or severe gaps. While the aligners can correct a mild malocclusion, patients with severe bites, overbites, or severe crossbites may require more advanced orthodontic treatment.
Differences with brackets
Unlike traditional braces, splints can be removed for brushing teeth, flossing, and eating. They are also much more aesthetic than braces, allowing a pleasant appearance during treatment.
Because the aligners are removable, patients may be tempted to remove them if they experience any discomfort, but while it may seem obvious, there are times when remembering that the aligners don't work unless they are placed in the mouth for the necessary hours.
