Proper oral hygiene should start at a young age, to create a habit that lasts a lifetime.
Below are hard data on dentistry:
- Dental Caries is the # 1 epidemiological disease in Mexico with a 95% prevalence in children of Primary school age.
- Gum disease in young adults is the # 2 epidemiological disease in Mexico and is the cause of early tooth loss in young adults.
- Daily brushing, at least once a day, can reduce tooth decay up to 40%.
In May 2013, the World Federation of Public Health Associations, resolved in its general assembly that Oral Health is a universal right of children. The right age to generate good habits is 0 to 5 years and then repetition is required so they do not get lost.
“All these data are alarming and we can avoid them with proper dental hygiene that starts from the first years, to create a habit that remains a lifetime. At the Foundation of the Mexican Dental Association, we consider the diffusion of daily brushing necessary, teaching children to maintain proper oral health from an early age and the importance of having a healthy denture, ”said Dr. Jaime Edelson.
These figures are a constant that should be reduced and only by working and raising awareness in children and adults, will a real benefit be achieved for the entire population.
